I've always thought all along that Apple was going to have to pay Nokia something or settle this simply because other cell phone manufacturers using similar technology have already settled with Nokia.

The question now is why has Apple been so stubborn? Do they know something we don't or are they risking the farm on this one?

With the Nokia/Microsoft deal in place, is it possible Nokia had no intention of ever settling with Apple like they did with other cell phone manufacturers? Hmm, makes me wonder.

And of course, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop which will be Apple filing another lawsuit against Nokia after losing the first round of their countersuit.

And anyone know what's going on with the Apple lawsuit against HTC? That could conceivably have broad implications on the entire Android OS itself and Google.

Now my final question would be, is it possible Apple could file suit against BOTH Microsoft and Nokia when the Windows Phone 7 Nokia phones come out? I mean, Steve Jobs said it himself that Apple had patented the iPhone to the hilt and intended to protect all those patents.

I somehow think this is all going to end up in a wash in the end and I just realized I've given myself a patented headache typing all this.

What's with all those nuns, eh?

I see your point. Like the burqa, a nun's gown covers her face. And like Muslim women, nuns are often forced to wear their robes because they are forced to by their husband with rape and/or beating as possible punishment for non-compliance.

    Solid analogy.

I hope this will correct the Office 2011 paid beta test!
There are two programs that crash on my Mac on a regular basis. 1-outlook 2-excel and I'm not going to even mention the missing calendar syncing...

For me this release of Office ranks very close to the Vista blunder.

10.6 is very decent but there are a couple of minor things that would make me very happy; being able to password protect individual folders

A reasonable list as these things go. To protect a folder either Get Info the folder and Set Privileges for others to No Access or make a password protected disk image (in Disk utility). The latter seems like too much work to me but then I really don't have anything to protect.

I've grown to dislike reading magazines on the iPad for several reasons.

    1. PPI of iPad too low
    2. Appification of magazines (why have an app for each?)
    3. Not passing along the cost savings saved in printing/shipping to us.

All I want is a subscription that cost less than the Amazon.com price, uses a common app (e.g. like Zinio) and a screen whose PPI is near the DPI of magazines.

Oooh.... dangerous territory. I wouldn't call engineer 'types' uncreative. Very unwise..

Yes FuzzMunky that was unwise of me and i stand appropriately corrected. There are so many creative engineers and in fact one might argue that enginnering itself is a creative act. I will not say that again -:o

Because you were becoming irrationally exuberant - I thought that you needed some balance ;) .

I also wonder about this Intel diagram:

    http://www.geekwithlaptop.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/intel-thunderbolt-3.jpg(click to enlarge)

If this applies to the Imac TBolt ports, then the two TBolt ports in fact share bandwidth from the single PCIe x4 connection. The combined max throughput of the two ports would be no better than that of a single TBolt port.

Another moot point, though, since no TBolt devices can be purchased.

Why would it be shared? There are 8 empty lanes so couldn't there be two x4 slots for TBs so both get their own?

TBH the 27" IMac is sounding very tempting with the double TB and SB
why on earth is the HDD not sata-3

i was planning on copping an IMac for my family home, as my parent and sisters love my MBP - but i really do not care if the IMac CPU is 10-15% faster, when the hdd only links to sata3 - as i would of put an owc ssd in!

Guess i will wait for a 2012 re-fresh when apple finally recognises sata-6
i hope, rather than giving us TB - which i love, but at this point in time is a little redundant as there is no TB equipped peripherals available - hopefully a next gen apple cinema display with OLED and TB would also get my cash!

You can get Thunderbolt SSD once the enclosures start to arrive in a month or two.

I think we can all agree that Nokia's meat and potatoes has been in dumb phones. They are present in the smart phone market, but this merger if you will with Windows is going to be their attempt to really recreate themselves in a market they were not very successful in.

That's ridiculous. Up until the last few months, Nokia has had the largest share in smartphones worldwide and has done for over a decade. At one point they had Microsoft Windows DESKTOP sized share of the smartphone market.

The Windows Phone move is an attempt to placate the US market where their smartphones never caught on and also in Europe where increasingly the iPhone and Android are taking over also as Nokia, through it's own stupid management has failed to update it's operating systems in a timely manner.

Personally, I think the Windows Phone move is a good move for the USA since it doesn't really matter and a ridiculously stupid move for the rest of the world where Nokia could have toughed it out for a couple more years improving Symbian and MeeGo with Qt as a development platform. Nobody in Europe really used Windows Mobile and I don't see anybody clamouring for Windows Phone either. Nokia's S40 OS is arguably more powerful than Windows Phone 7 and that's a feature phone OS.

In Texas, you can get mixed drinks through the drive through! It's considered a "closed" container if the cup has a lid on it and the straw still has the paper over the top portion. I always thought that was hilarious.

Louisiana is like that. It always cracked me up when going through a drive-through liquor store and there would be a "please don't drink and drive" sign there as you pulled out. Louisiana used to have not only drive through daquiri stores, but full service drive through liquor stores. I haven't checked lately, though. Then again, Louisiana was the last state to raise their drinking age to 21, and only did it after the feds cut off highway funding.

But then I'd have to use Mail.

There are programs out there that can integrate at least three of these on a Mac, using the internal databases. I like the fact that I don't have to use one program for everything; it usually means a program that doesn't do any as well, and it limits what you can to to what that program offers. With them as seperate componets, I can use only iCal, or only Mail, or only AddressBook, depending on what I need. And since the database is open to other apps, I can get a different address book or whatever if I need it.

I don't see Apples apps as supposed to be the best in catagory. They are supposed to be enough for a casual user. If you want more, you can get programs that allow more. Being seperate is better for this, because if you are a casual user of one but a heavy user of another you can just get a better program for the one you are a heavy user of. (For instance, I'm a heavy user of email, so I have Mulberry. It integrates with Address Book, of which I'm a very light user. And I nearly don't use iCal at all, but I use it just enough to appreciate that it is there. Integrating the three would actually make them less useful to me, because I'd be tied to using them togther, and that's not how I use them.)

Use Outlook, if that's the best program for you. That's fine. Some people don't need that much, but appreciate having the ablity to use some of it on occasion.
    Very well said.

I have tried many alternatives out there. Some good ideas exist for sure. But I always come back to the Apple stuff. I like the simplicity of iCal, Addressbook and Mail, and the way they work together. I expect I will like them even more with the new features that will surely occur with Leopard.

geekbench score for the 2.3 dual core is 2082
geekbench score for the 2.5 quad is 3304

and you can get a quad , but you need to make one thing absolute sure , that it does not come with the delphi pumps , apple did change the supplier basically right at the end before discontinuing the G5 , the later ones are i think from panasonic , but that needs confirmation and those are much more reliable , still did not help them ,despite apple still sold quiet a few to its victims aeh customers who believed apple a couple month earlier, as apple told everybody how superior the G5 is and then going intel
