There is a specific service manual for each Mac, including the 11-inch Air.
Surprisingly for me, the 11" and the 13" have different bottom screw assembly orders! Thanks for pointing that out!

Well what will you use it for, what apps will you run? The ibook is not slow, the only time it will be slow is for running some pro apps such as FCP. Also you might want to consider the 12" ibook since the 14 and 12 inch have the same resolution.

Basically, you could say that what I need is an advanced typewriter, but then again, I imagine that once I get to know the machine, I'll be wanting it to do more stuff? Never had a portable before....

Pages is perfectly fine for word processing, which I know from experience as I been using it for that purpose every day for nearly two years. Most of the people who say otherwise either haven't learned to use it or would have preferred that Apple produce a Word clone. Some of are very happy that they did not go that route.

Office isn't even installed on my PowerBook anymore, and I've been using Pages and Keynote quite successfully on campus (where lots of classes and professors want lots of word and powerpoints all the time) for two semesters now and am glad I made the switch. I'm excited to hear about Lasso.

Food Packaging is a HUGELY moot topic here in the UK.
Namely fresh goods (fruit/veg/meats etc) and how completely wastefully packaged up they have all become. It disgusts me when for example I see fruit such as apples or pears, sat in polystyrene trays and then shrink wrapped and labelled up!
Chances are, you are actually paying more for this packaging than the products within, let alone the negative impacts it has on the environment in terms of production and (if any) recycling.
Same applies with a whole myriad of food types, and its more a cultural issue perhaps than anything. We have become obsessed with a certain expectation of 'perfection' and that everything must be delivered and presented to us in ship shape condition, free of artifacts or the possibility of contamination.
It would be great to see this issue addressed (chiefly in supermarkets might I add) face on, and it might be more a campaign of advertising than perhaps packaging (of the type I mention)
If however, certain packaging is to be dropped it will have to be replaced with something that still fulfils certain levels of quality & protection etc. This is certainly a design challenge on a few levels, but if there is one thing designers are good at, its thinking laterally about a problem and actually seeing the negatives in existing products/systems etc as being fantastic gateways for improvement.
Just my two pennies!

Smalldog lists the their used iMac (with the same specs as mine except mine has more ram) at $800. $1000 may be high but that's why this is just a feeler. I do have some additional software but my son destroyed the discs (love my 1year old!!) I have dmg. of a few of the programs. I realize though that I can't list them on this forum.

You can't use a disk that came with another mac. You need to use a full retail version. Also you will need to do a clean install, you can't do an upgrade install coming from Tiger.

literally just got Logic Pro 9 this morning... all I can say is thank god for support pages on Apple's site :D
Not into electronic music really... but for a MIDI controller I'd go for a MicroKORG XL and a Kaoss Pad, as they could be adapted to be used for what I do (alternative, slightly proggish rock and blues.)
